Keeping Kids Creative

Dear Readers,

We have all heard the buzzwords of the knowledge-based economy - creative, innovative, resourceful. We are told that our students will need these abilities, not just facts and figures, to thrive in the workplace of the future. And we,their teachers, need to equip them through creative teaching. Hence, here I try to unravel the nuts and bolts behind these ideas, to find out what creative teaching is all about and how it can be implemented in the classroom.

Writing Personal Responses

This is the first page of my student's portfolio. They wrote their personal particulars such as date of birth, hobbies, interest, ambition and so on.

Writing personal responses after reading each literature book is compulsory for my lesson. They can write how they feel about the characters or what they like or dislike about each character or even suggest opinion to the characters involved.

Using pencil, pen or colour pencils or even word processors will be up to the individual's preference.

The students can express themselves sincerely when writing their personal responses. There is no right or wrong expression for their feelings. They can just write how they feel......

My students have very high competitive spirit level so everybody used word processors to enhance their masterpieces.Nobody wants to be 'defeated'.....
